Domeniconi, Carlo
composer, arranger
Carlo Domeniconi was born at Cesena, Italy, in 1947. He began to study guitar with Carmen Mozzani at the age of 13. Having obtained a diploma from the Pesaro Conservatory when he was only 17 years old, he went to Berlin where he gained a second diploma under the guidance of Erich Bürger. He went on to study composition as well and held a lecturing post at the College of Arts (Hochschule der Künste) in Berlin from 1969 to 1992. At one stage (1977 to 1980), he taught guitar at the Istanbul Conservatory. Domeniconi wrote numerous pieces for solo instruments, chamber music and orchestral works. His output includes 10 concertos for guitar and orchestra as well as various compositions for solo guitar and chamber music combinations including the guitar. Owing to his familiarity with Indian, Turkish and Arab musical forms and tonal systems, he was able to endow his works with a highly distinctive idiom and to develop a personal style entirely his own. Domeniconi's works are now played throughout the world by performers of international renown.
