Ruta Paidere was born in 1977 in Tukums, a small Latvian town on the coast of the Baltic Sea, where she received her first musical training. Later she lived in Riga, where, in 1998 , she graduated in theory of music at the prestigious Music College Jāzeps Medins. During this time she was awarded many times in competitions for young Latvian composers. In 1998 she started studying composition, music theory, and piano at Hamburg Musikhochschule. In 2003 she completed her training at Dartington College of arts in England, and received the same year the DAAD prize.
Ruta Paideres works have been performed at various festivals for contemporary music, for example “Budapest Spring“ “Arena“ in Riga, “Tenso days“ in Berlin and “Musica“ in Strasbourgh. Works have been commissioned by “Kulturstiftung NRW“ and „Deutschlandfunk Köln“, the Riga Radio Choir, Festivals “ADevantgarde“ and “Klangzeit“ Münster and by the Summer Academy for Contemporary Music “OPUS XXI“. She has also written radio drama and theater music and is involved as a pianist at many performances of contemporary music.
Since 2007 Ruta Paidere is a member of the Latvian Composers‘ Union. She received a scholarship of “Oscar and Vera Ritter“ and the “Pro Musica Viva Foundation“. In 2005 she won the “Hermann and Anne Marie Rauhe price“ for contemporary chamber music and in 2007 she was awarded the Bach Prize Fellowship of the City of Hamburg.
Ruta Paidere currently teaches at the Hamburg Musikhochschule and at the Hamburg Conservatory. In 2016, Ruta Paidere has been appointed professor at the department theory and composition at the Hamburg Musikhochschule.
