Ruth Wiesenfeld (*1972 in Munich, Germany) studied composition with James Fulkerson (Amsterdam) and Frank Denyer (PhD from Dartington College of Arts in 2008). She also holds a BA in contemporary dance and choreography from the European Dance Development Center in Arnhem (Netherlands). With her husband and their two children she lives in Berlin, where she is a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler since 2001.
In recent years Ruth Wiesenfeld worked with ensembles such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Solistenensemble Kaleidsokop, Ensemble Courage, the vocal ensemble La Dolce Maniera and the 16-voice soloist ensemble PHØNIX16 under the direction of Timo Kreuser (Guest Composer 2013/2104) as well as with various soloists and conductors (Titus Engel, Luigi Gaggero, Steffen Schreyer, Robyn Schulkowsky). In 2012 she had the musical direction of the a cappella opera "The Silent String", choreographed and produced by Magda Korsinsky (performances in Uferstudios and St. Johannes Evangelist Kirche, Berlin).
Ruth Wiesenfeld is musically involved with the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests ("Dialoge 09 Neues Museum" in 2007 and "Métamorphoses" performed in Teatro Communale di Ferrara, Festspielhaus Hellerau and Radialsystem Berlin) as well as with shifts - art in movement (common projects include "A I R" - premièred in Rennes in 2015 and Festina Lente - Kunstfest Weimar, festival Made in Potsdam, festival Pharenheit in Le Havre and tTanznacht Berlin amongst others).
For several films by Deborah Philipps Wiesenfeld created the sound score, their joined production “Pfffhp tt!” has been awarded the LEO – a prize for innovative use of sound in a short film – of the International Filmfestival Braunschweig in 2012.
