Jaime Reis (born 1983) is a composer from Lisbon, Portugal whose music has been presented in Portugal, Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Austria, and Belgium.
He started studying music at the age of five in Seia with António Tilly and started composing at twelve, studying at Conservatório de Música in Seia and Viseu. Between the ages of 17 and 22, he concluded a music teaching degree in Universidade de Aveiro, where he studied composition and electronic music with Isabel Soveral and João Pedro Oliveira. He finished the doctoral course in social sciences in Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies in musicology with Salwa Castelo-Branco and Emmanuel Nunes, whose composition seminars he attends regularly, namely those of Gulbenkian Foundation. He also attended Stockhausen courses in Germany.
Besides his activity as a composer, he is artistic director of the festivals, Days of Portuguese Music, in Kraków and Days of Electroacoustic Music in Portugal. He teaches and is co-directes of Conservatório de Música in Seia. His music has been presented, in, among others, his native country (Festival Música Viva and Festival de Música de Aveiro), in Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Austria (Hörfest 05, Graz), where he was invited to premiere his piece Lysozyme Synthesis, and Belgium (Ghent), where he premiere his piece Density Study, commissioned by the Logos Foundation. In 2006 and 2007, he was a composer in residence at Laboratory of Electroacoustic Creation (Miso Music, Portugal) and at Visby International Centre for Composers in 2007.
