Alberto Hortigüela studied composition at the Salamanca Music Academy with Alejandro Yagüe and at the Universidad Alcalá de Henares with José Luis de Delás. From 2001 he continued his composition studies at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Marco Stroppa, later as a master student with Caspar Johannes Walter. He received awards from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation (2005) and in 2008 from the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid. In 2009 he won a prize in the ad libitum composition competition, organized by the New Music Network, with his piece Ohne Titel for chamber orchestra. He has received composition commissions from Südwestrundfunk, the Stuttgart State Theater, the ALEPH guitar quartet, the Klangforum Heidelberg, the Ensemble Phorminx and the SMASH Ensemble. His works are available on CDs by the ALEPH Guitar Quartet.
